On August 1, 2025, the Islamabad Express train traveling from Lahore to Rawalpindi derailed near Kala Shah Kaku, with reports indicating between three to six carriages left the tracks. The incident resulted in injuries to approximately 25 to 30 passengers. Efforts to restore the railway track were underway following the accident. Later that day, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale and a depth of 102 kilometers was recorded by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The tremors were felt across multiple regions including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and various districts of Punjab. Additionally, low-level flooding was reported at Chenab River's Head Marala and Head Khanki areas.
