The Punjab province in Pakistan has declared a state of emergency following heavy rains that caused flooding and resulted in over 60 deaths within 24 hours. The army has initiated rescue operations in response to the crisis. The torrential rains have also damaged crops, including the destruction of paddy fields in Safdarabad. Several cities including Lahore, Khanewal, and Toba Tek Singh have experienced ongoing rainfall, with Lahore seeing the arrival of the fourth monsoon spell prompting emergency measures ordered by the local commissioner. Islamabad faces challenges due to encroachments on water channels, exacerbating the destruction caused by the floods. The monsoon rains continue in various parts of Azad Kashmir, including Samahni tehsil, with intermittent heavy and light rainfall reported. Authorities have linked the intensification of monsoon rains and resulting fatalities to the impacts of climate change.
