Pakistan's main opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has launched nationwide protests demanding the restoration of democracy and the release of Khan, who has been imprisoned for two years. The protests coincide with the second anniversary of Khan's jailing. Authorities have imposed Section 144 in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to restrict gatherings, and police arrested 120 PTI activists in pre-emptive raids ahead of the demonstrations. PTI members of the National Assembly and Senate planned protests outside Adiala Jail, where Khan is held. The party's leadership finalized the protest plans for August 5, with rallies also taking place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir. Ali Amin Gandapur, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and PTI leader, led a rally in Peshawar, despite reports of internal divisions within the party. Other political groups, such as Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aain Pakistan, are expected to join the protests. Some PTI leaders have called for a clear strategy and unity in the movement, while others emphasized the need for constructive dialogue with the government. The protests mark a continuation of PTI's opposition activities, which have been stalled since Khan's imprisonment.
