The U.S. State Department has issued a security alert concerning threats against luxury hotels in Karachi, Pakistan. In response, the U.S. Consulate in Karachi has temporarily restricted official visits by government staff to these hotels and advised American citizens and diplomatic personnel to exercise caution. This advisory follows a pattern similar to a previous alert issued in April 2024 during the Iranian president’s visit to Pakistan. Separately, Karachi has experienced several violent incidents, including the killing of senior lawyer Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam, a shooting in Gulistan-e-Johar Block 15 resulting in one death, and a foreign woman injured in a shooting. Additionally, two suspects involved in the robbery of a security company’s cash van have been arrested. These events underscore ongoing security challenges in Karachi amid heightened safety warnings for U.S. personnel.
