PokerGO founder Cary Katz captured his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet by winning Event #83, the $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout, in Las Vegas. Katz outlasted a 1,299-player field to claim $449,245, the largest share of the event’s $2.89 million prize pool. The 54-year-old American, ranked 19th on poker’s all-time money list with more than $40 million in earnings, defeated Brazil’s Breno Drumond heads-up. The title was decided when Katz’s pocket threes held against Drumond’s ace-jack, sealing the runner-up’s $298,690 payout. Despite multiple deep runs and three previous second-place finishes at the series, a WSOP bracelet had eluded Katz until now. His breakthrough adds a new milestone to a career largely spent in high-roller events and positions him to enter the ongoing WSOP Main Event with fresh momentum.
