In Poland, public unrest has escalated following two violent incidents involving migrants. In the town of Nowe, a Colombian migrant was arrested for fatally stabbing a 41-year-old Polish man during a violent altercation. Meanwhile, in the city of Torun, over 10,000 people protested after a 19-year-old illegal Venezuelan migrant was accused of murdering a Polish woman, a barmaid, after attempting to rape her in a park at night. The Venezuelan suspect faces a possible life sentence. These events have fueled anti-immigration sentiments, prompting the formation of Polish Citizens Patrols—civilian groups aiming to guard the Polish-German border and prevent illegal migrant crossings. Reports indicate that German police vans have attempted to transport illegal migrants into Poland via forest dirt roads, actions which Polish patrols have sought to block. The ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) has publicly praised these right-wing citizen patrols, which have also received support from local farmers who are assisting in border protection efforts with tractors. The Polish government justifies these measures as part of its campaign against irregular immigration. The situation reflects growing tensions around migration and border security in Poland.
