Portuguese club SL Benfica has reached agreement with Aston Villa to acquire Argentine midfielder Enzo Barrenechea in a deal valued at around €15 million. The structure of the transaction is a loan that carries an obligation to buy should specified conditions be met, according to people familiar with the negotiations. Barrenechea, 24, has accepted personal terms on a contract running until June 2030 and is expected to undergo a medical examination in the coming days before the move becomes official. The transfer will add another Argentine presence to Benfica’s squad as the Lisbon side looks to strengthen its midfield options ahead of the 2025-26 season.
