Portugal has been grappling with multiple large wildfires amid an intense heatwave, deploying over 3,700 firefighters, approximately 1,200 ground vehicles, and 37 aerial units to combat the blazes. Despite initial efforts, around 2,700 firefighters remain actively engaged in firefighting operations as some fires have come under control. The extreme heat, with temperatures reaching up to 45°C, has prompted the Portuguese government to declare a state of alert. Neighboring Spain is also affected by the heatwave and wildfires, with several departments placed under orange fire warnings. In southern France, particularly the Bouches-du-Rhône region, authorities have issued a red alert for forest fires, deploying 170 marine firefighters as reinforcements. A forest fire in the Var department has been stabilized after burning 5.1 hectares, with over 130 firefighters and 45 vehicles involved in containment efforts. Civil protection agencies continue to warn about the high risk of further wildfires due to ongoing extreme weather conditions.
