Fox Corp. has agreed to acquire roughly one-third of Penske Entertainment for about $125 million to $135 million, according to people familiar with the matter. Penske controls the open-wheel IndyCar Series and owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500. The investment deepens Fox’s bet on U.S. motorsports and comes six months after the broadcaster began carrying IndyCar races under a rights deal that displaced NBC. As part of the equity transaction, that media-rights agreement has been extended for several more years, the people said. IndyCar telecasts on Fox have averaged audiences about 30% higher this season than a year earlier, bolstering the network’s strategy of pairing live sports with its news and entertainment programming. Penske Entertainment remains majority-owned by racing magnate Roger Penske, who purchased the series and speedway in 2020.
