Valve CEO Gabe Newell co-founded a neuroscience startup in 2019 that is developing a batteryless brain chip expected to launch in 2025. This chip is seen as a competitor to Neuralink, which plans to implant its Blindsight brain–computer interface (BCI) into a human in the United Arab Emirates by late 2025. The Blindsight chip is designed to restore vision by connecting directly to the visual cortex, bypassing the eyes, and aims to help even people born blind. While the brain chips are not currently targeted for video game applications, Valve and the broader gaming industry are exploring potential uses of brain interfaces to transform gaming experiences.
