The British and Irish Lions completed their warm-up schedule in emphatic style, overwhelming the Australia & New Zealand Invitational XV 48-0 at Adelaide Oval. Scotland wing Duhan van der Merwe crossed for a first-half brace and completed his hat-trick on 64 minutes, while further tries from Ben White, Sione Tuipulotu, Scott Cummings, Ronan Kelleher and Henry Pollock underlined the tourists’ dominance. Ben Earl’s all-action display from No. 8 earned him the Player-of-the-Match award as Andy Farrell’s side kept their hosts scoreless, conceding only seven penalties and missing just 13% of their tackles. The set-piece also impressed, with the Lions exploiting two yellow cards to AUNZ forwards Shannon Frizell and Joshua Fusitu’a to stretch the margin after the interval. The result gives Farrell a timely selection boost ahead of next Saturday’s opening Test against Australia. Owen Farrell made his tour debut from the bench, while Hugo Keenan strengthened his claim for the starting full-back berth. Hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie was taken off on a stretcher with a suspected head-and-neck injury, and centre Garry Ringrose is an additional fitness concern after emerging as a doubt earlier in the day.
