The Klyuchevskoy volcano, the tallest and one of the most active volcanoes in Eurasia and Russia's far east, erupted on July 30, 2025, shortly after a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 struck the Kamchatka Peninsula. The eruption followed the seismic event and subsequent tsunami alerts that prompted evacuations along the Pacific coast. The Russian Geophysical Survey and other monitoring institutes confirmed the volcanic activity, which was captured by seismic cameras showing bright red emissions from the volcano's summit. The region affected is sparsely populated, but the eruption and earthquake have raised alerts in Kamchatka and surrounding areas.
