Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Moscow during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, two people familiar with the discussion told Agence France-Presse. The overture was made after a high-level summit on the war in Ukraine held in Washington on Monday that brought together Trump, Zelensky and several European leaders. According to the same sources, the participants agreed in principle to pursue a face-to-face meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders, although no date or agenda has been set. If confirmed, talks in Moscow would mark the first direct encounter between Putin and Zelensky since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Western officials have cautioned that any bilateral negotiations must respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity, while the Kremlin has said it welcomes discussions “without preconditions.” Kyiv has not yet issued a public response to the venue proposal.
