Ukrainian drone strikes have targeted multiple chemical plants in Russia, causing fires and damage to industrial facilities. On July 4, 2025, a kamikaze drone attack ignited a large fire at a chemical plant in Shebekino, Belgorod region, with thick black smoke visible from 25 kilometers away. The affected area includes several chemical plants such as Akosintez and Selena, with eyewitnesses reporting secondary explosions. Subsequently, on July 7, Ukrainian drones struck the Krasnozavodsk Chemical Plant near Moscow, a key facility involved in producing explosives and thermobaric warheads for Shahed drones, which are used as suicide drones. Damage assessments were underway following this strike. Later, on July 17, Ukrainian drones targeted the Shchekinoazot chemical plant in Russia’s Tula region, a major producer of industrial chemicals including methanol, caprolactam, mineral fertilizers, and sulfuric acid. The attack reportedly damaged at least one rectification column and caused a fire. Ukrainian forces notably used FAB-250 bombs mounted on strike drones for this operation. These strikes appear aimed at disrupting Russia's industrial and defense-related chemical production capabilities.
