On July 4, 2025, Ukraine launched a drone attack on Sergiyev Posad, a city approximately 70 kilometers northeast of Moscow. The strike targeted an electrical substation and power infrastructure, causing several explosions and partial blackouts in the area. At least one person was reported injured in the attack. Russian authorities confirmed the damage to the power facilities and noted the impact on this religiously significant center. Subsequently, on July 16-17, Russian air defense units claimed to have intercepted and destroyed between 122 and 126 Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow and other regions across Russia. These drone attacks resulted in one fatality and four civilian injuries according to Russian reports. The wave of drone strikes on Russian territory occurred less than two weeks after U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly inquired about Kyiv's capability to strike Moscow.
