Arsenal Football Club has reached an agreement to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP. The 27-year-old forward, who scored 39 league goals last season, has agreed to a five-year contract with Arsenal, valid until June 2030. The transfer fee is reported to be a fixed €63.5 million (£55 million, $75 million) plus €10 million (£8.6 million, $11.7 million) in potential add-ons, totaling approximately €73.5 million. Gyökeres has made clear his desire to join Arsenal exclusively, refusing to return to Sporting for pre-season training and facing disciplinary action from his current club. Arsenal confirmed the signing ahead of their pre-season tour to Asia, where Gyökeres made his debut in a friendly match against Tottenham Hotspur held in Hong Kong. Arsenal lost the match 1-0, with Pape Matar Sarr scoring a lob from the center circle. Gyökeres wore the No. 14 shirt, a number famously worn by Arsenal's record goalscorer Thierry Henry.
