Club América began the Apertura 2025 campaign with a 1–1 draw away to FC Juárez on Friday night, surrendering a late equaliser after playing the final 20 minutes with ten men. Alejandro Zendejas put the sub-champions in front in the 39th minute, capitalising on a defensive mistake to beat goalkeeper Sebastián Jurado. Juárez struggled to create chances until the second half but gained momentum when América midfielder Erick “Chiquito” Sánchez was sent off in the 71st minute following a VAR review that upgraded his caution to a red card. The numerical advantage paid off nine minutes later when summer signing Rodolfo Pizarro headed home the leveller, securing a point for the border club in his league debut. América coach André Jardine, who fielded a side missing several regulars returning from international duty, also lost Álvaro Fidalgo to a late knock, though the Spaniard managed to finish the match. The result leaves both teams on one point after the first round of Liga MX fixtures.
