Fluminense confirmed late Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with Mexico’s Pachuca to terminate John Kennedy’s loan six months early. The Rio de Janeiro side said it will pay an undisclosed compensation fee and expects the 23-year-old striker to report to its training ground on Wednesday, 16 July. Kennedy joined Pachuca in January and made a fast start, recording nine goals and two assists in 22 appearances. His playing time waned after a coaching change in June, prompting negotiations for an early return. The loan had been scheduled to run through the end of 2025. A graduate of Fluminense’s Xerém academy, Kennedy wrote his name into club lore by scoring the extra-time winner in the 2023 Copa Libertadores final against Boca Juniors. He has 112 matches and 21 goals for the Brazilian champions and is under contract until 2026. Head coach Renato Gaúcho plans to have him available for Sunday’s derby against Flamengo in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
