Reigning champions England reached a third consecutive major final by overcoming Italy 2–1 after extra time in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 semi-final at Geneva’s Stade de Genève on Tuesday. Italy struck first when Barbara Bonansea volleyed home in the 33rd minute, and the Azzurre looked set for their first final appearance since 1997 until 19-year-old substitute Michelle Agyemang levelled six minutes into second-half stoppage time. England dominated possession but required the late equaliser to force an additional 30 minutes. The decisive moment came in the 119th minute when Emma Severini’s challenge on Beth Mead yielded a penalty. Chloe Kelly’s initial effort was parried by goalkeeper Laura Giuliani, but the forward reacted quickest to rifle in the rebound, sending the 26,539-strong crowd into celebration and ending Italy’s run. Sarina Wiegman’s side, winners of Euro 2022 and runners-up at the 2023 World Cup, will defend their continental crown in Basel on 27 July against the victor of Wednesday’s Germany-Spain semi-final.
