Germany reached the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 semi-finals after edging France 6–5 in a penalty shootout following a 1–1 draw at St. Jakob-Park in Basel on 19 July. The result sets up a last-four meeting with world champions Spain. The quarter-final turned early when German defender Kathrin Hendrich was dismissed in the 13th minute for pulling the hair of France’s Griedge Mbock Bathy. Grace Geyoro converted the ensuing penalty to give France the lead, but ten-woman Germany equalised 12 minutes later as Sjoeke Nüsken darted to the near post to nod in Klara Bühl’s corner. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger produced a spectacular late save to keep the scores level and then dominated the shootout. She stopped Amel Majri’s opening kick, buried her own effort and finally denied 21-year-old Alice Sombath after Sara Däbritz had struck the bar, sealing Germany’s 6–5 triumph. The eight-time champions will face Spain on Wednesday, while the other semi-final pits England against Italy.
