Orlando Pride have signed Mexican winger Lizbeth Jacqueline Ovalle from Tigres UANL Femenil in a deal worth about $1.5 million, setting a new world record for a women’s football transfer. The reigning National Women’s Soccer League champions announced that the 25-year-old has agreed terms through the 2027 season, with a mutual option for 2028, pending receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate. The fee eclipses the $1.3 million Arsenal paid Liverpool last month for Canada’s Olivia Smith and surpasses the $1.1 million Chelsea spent on U.S. defender Naomi Girma in January. It is Orlando’s second market-shifting move in as many years; the club paid $740,000 for Zambia forward Barbra Banda in March 2024. Ovalle leaves Tigres as the club’s all-time top scorer with 136 goals and six Liga MX Femenil titles. Capped 58 times by Mexico, she has scored 20 international goals and was named in the 2024 W Gold Cup team of the tournament. She is expected to play in Liga MX Femenil’s inaugural All-Star Game on Friday before joining Orlando’s push for a second consecutive NWSL championship.
