Watford FC is poised to sign 19-year-old Morocco U20 winger Othmane Maamma from French side Montpellier Hérault SC. The player underwent a medical in England on Monday, clearing the way for a contract that will keep him at Vicarage Road until 2029. Financial terms were not disclosed. Maamma made 14 Ligue 1 appearances last season, scoring twice and assisting once in a Montpellier team that was ultimately relegated to Ligue 2. His form at club level and during Morocco’s run to the U20 Africa Cup of Nations final attracted interest from several European clubs, but Watford has moved quickest as it seeks to strengthen for a push back to the Premier League. Montpellier, meanwhile, is reshaping its squad after relegation. The club is in advanced talks to sign 31-year-old Caen striker Alexandre Mendy, while also finalising departures such as Maamma’s.
