Apple Inc. is collaborating with Anthropic PBC to develop a new AI-powered coding platform, known as 'vibe-coding,' which will integrate Anthropic's Claude Sonnet model into an updated version of Apple's Xcode software. This platform is designed to assist programmers in writing, editing, and testing code, as well as debugging and testing user interfaces. The new tool, which features a chat-based interface, is currently being rolled out internally at Apple for use by its engineers. The company has not yet decided on a public launch, indicating a cautious approach to expanding the platform beyond its internal use. This partnership marks a shift in Apple's strategy towards AI, moving away from solely relying on in-house development to incorporating external AI technologies. Previously, Apple had developed its own AI coding assistant, Swift Assist, but it has not been released to the public due to concerns over hallucinations and slow performance.
