Apple has begun testing Apple Music version 5.0 on Android, introducing several functions borrowed from the upcoming iOS 26 release. The beta, released 5 August through Google’s Play Store testing program, marks the service’s most substantial Android update in roughly a year. Version 5.0 swaps the app’s long-standing rounded-rectangle controls for pill-shaped buttons and lets users pin favourite songs, albums, artists or playlists to the top of their library, with an option to download those selections automatically for offline listening. The build also adds month-by-month and year-end listening statistics and a lyric translation feature with pronunciation guides aimed at the service’s karaoke mode. Apple stopped short of bringing iOS 26’s headline “Liquid Glass” visual language or the new AutoMix DJ-style crossfade to Google’s platform. The bottom navigation bar and homescreen widgets remain unchanged. The cross-platform enhancement comes as Apple seeks to keep pace with Spotify and YouTube Music while expanding the reach of its in-house streaming service beyond the iPhone ecosystem.
