Google has removed its AI assistant, Gemini, from the main Google app on iOS, urging users to download the standalone Gemini app. This move is aimed at enhancing the user experience and enabling faster deployment of new features, while also positioning Gemini to compete more directly with other AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Perplexity. The standalone app, launched in November 2024, offers features such as voice interactions, AI summaries, integration with Google services like Search, YouTube, and Gmail, and the Gemini Live feature. Additionally, Google has made a previously paid feature—document upload and analysis—available to all free-tier users of Gemini. This feature allows users to upload up to 10 files, including PDFs and Word documents, for analysis, summaries, and actionable insights. However, certain advanced functionalities, such as spreadsheet uploads, custom Gems, and a 1 million token limit, remain exclusive to Gemini Advanced subscribers.
