Reddit has integrated Google's Gemini AI into its conversational search tool, Reddit Answers, to enhance search relevance and provide quicker, more accurate answers. The integration utilizes Google's Vertex AI Search platform to process data from Reddit's vast user-generated content, which spans over 100,000 communities and serves 400 million weekly active users. Reddit Answers, launched in December 2024 and currently in beta, allows users to ask questions and receive curated summaries of relevant posts and comments. This update aims to keep users on the platform by offering a more streamlined search experience compared to traditional search engines. The partnership builds on a $60 million deal between Google and Reddit to license Reddit's content for AI training. Announced at Cloud Next 2025, the integration with Gemini is expected to improve the tool's functionality, including follow-up questions and AI-driven conversations. The feature is currently available in English for U.S. users on the web and iOS devices. While some users have praised the tool for its efficiency, others have expressed mixed opinions, comparing it to other AI tools like Grok AI. Matt Snelham, Reddit's SVP of Infrastructure, noted that the integration has improved search relevance and increased user engagement on the platform.
