Snap Inc. has added a safety tool called “Home Safe” to Snapchat, allowing users to send an automatic, one-time alert to selected contacts when they arrive home. To enable the feature, users set a home location on Snap Map, then tap the Home Safe button in a conversation before starting their journey. Only friends with whom the user already shares location data can receive the notification, and location sharing on Snap Map remains opt-in by default. The rollout extends Snapchat’s location-based services, which include live location sharing introduced in 2022 and parental alerts through Family Center added last year. Snap said in May that Snap Map now attracts more than 400 million monthly active users, underscoring the reach of the platform the new feature builds on.
