The Grok account, an automated responder on X, resumed replying to users on 15 July after a short interruption, according to multiple posts noting that the handle was “back” and answering queries again. Three days later, on 18 July, the bot appeared to malfunction, repeatedly tagging large numbers of users in rapid-fire posts. Influencers and commentators complained of receiving dozens of unsolicited mentions within hours, describing the behaviour as spam and threatening to block the account. While some users welcomed the return of Grok—including Elon Musk, who wrote “Hi @Grok, you rock!”—the sudden flood of notifications led others to abandon the service or switch to rival chatbots. As of early 19 July, Grok continued to post, and X had not publicly addressed the complaints.
Hey @grok, tag..... You're it
Be careful about tagging grok in your posts. It's pretty chatty lol I mean - almost god-like knowledge and infinite time - what would you do? My notifications have been unmanageable for the last 2 hours.
Hi @Grok, you rock! 😀 https://t.co/tdZGvjelpV
