X, the social-media platform owned by Elon Musk, is experiencing a widespread outage affecting its notification system. Users across the service began reporting on 29 July that likes, replies, reposts and new-follower alerts were not appearing in either push notifications or the in-app notification tab. Dozens of accounts publicly complained that only a fraction of their actual engagement was being displayed—sometimes showing single-digit counts despite evidence of hundreds of interactions. The disruption appears to have persisted for several hours and has affected both desktop and mobile versions of the service. As of mid-afternoon New York time, X had not issued a statement acknowledging the problem or providing an estimated time for a fix. The platform has suffered intermittent notification failures in recent months, but the latest glitch is among the most extensive reported since Musk acquired the company in 2022.
Notifications are completely broken again today, apologies if I miss your reply. Seems to be widespread.
