Somalia continues to strengthen its security and diplomatic efforts amid ongoing challenges from the extremist group Al-Shabaab. The Somali National Army (SNA) recently captured Al-Shabaab commanders during an operation in Bariire. In a separate development, two Somali soldiers were executed after being convicted of conspiring with Al-Shabaab to assassinate a commander. Clashes between Somali federal forces and regional militias loyal to Ahmed Madoobe near Beled Hawo in the Gedo region resulted in two soldiers killed, three wounded, and ten militants captured. The fighting underscores persistent tensions in southern Somalia. Djibouti has expanded its peace mission by sending additional troops to Somalia's Galmudug region under a new bilateral agreement to bolster the fight against Al-Shabaab and support Somali forces. On the diplomatic front, Somalia inaugurated a new embassy building in Algeria, with Foreign Minister Abdisalam Dhaay and Algerian officials attending the ceremony. Somalia is also engaging in international cooperation, including discussions with Iraq on strengthening security cooperation and with the United States on enhancing border security and passport systems. Ambassador Riley of the U.S. met with Somalia's Immigration and Citizenship Authority Director General Mohamed Duhulow to discuss joint programs aimed at improving border security. Additionally, Somali officials have met with representatives from the European Union and the People's Republic of China to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in culture and public awareness. The Galmudug Vice President also met with African Union peacekeeping officials to boost security cooperation.
