A military helicopter operated by the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) crashed on July 2, 2025, at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, Somalia. The helicopter, identified as a Ugandan Mi-24 or Mi-35 “Hind,” was carrying eight personnel when it crashed during landing after departing from Balidogle Airbase. The crash caused a fire that was quickly contained by rescue workers and firefighters. According to Ugandan military authorities and the African Union, five passengers were killed and three were injured and rescued. The helicopter crash occurred near the Halane Base Camp, which houses foreign nationals, diplomats, and military personnel from several countries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Airport operations at Aden Adde International Airport reportedly continued as normal following the incident.
