Memorial services for the late David Dabede Mabuza, former deputy president of South Africa, were held across Mpumalanga, with the African National Congress (ANC) hosting key events to honor his legacy. ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe, ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile, and other party leaders delivered eulogies highlighting Mabuza's role in promoting unity within the party and his commitment to ethical leadership. Mantashe accused the ANC in Mpumalanga of misleading Mabuza into challenging Cyril Ramaphosa for the party presidency at the December 2022 ANC national conference. The South African Communist Party (SACP) claimed Mabuza supported Ramaphosa in 2017 to prevent former President Jacob Zuma from exerting influence after his presidency. Mabuza's youngest sister expressed distress over the public learning about his death before the family was informed. Mabuza's children have pledged to honor his legacy. Throughout the memorials, leaders emphasized Mabuza's contributions to restoring public confidence in government and fighting factionalism within the ANC.
