Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu has overhauled his provincial executive, dismissing Education MEC Cathy Dlamini and Economic Development and Tourism MEC Makhosazane Masilela. Lindi Masina, previously a member of the provincial legislature, steps in for the education portfolio, while Ehlanzeni District mayor Jesta Sidel takes charge of economic development and tourism. The new members were sworn in on 15 July. Ndlovu said the reshuffle is intended to strengthen governance and improve service delivery, with a particular focus on lifting the province’s matric pass rate. "My duty is to act in the best interests of good governance," he told reporters. Separately, the premier fired Sports, Arts and Culture Head of Department Godfrey Ntombela after a dispute over an allegedly forged contract extension. Police are investigating claims that a former premier’s electronic signature was fraudulently used in an extension linked to an R80,000 payment.
