Two teenagers, aged 16 and 18, were arrested following an attack on three Democratic Alliance (DA) Members of Parliament (MPs) in Philippi, Cape Town. The MPs—Ian Cameron, chair of Parliament’s police portfolio committee, Lisa-Maré Schickerling, and Nicholas Gotsell—were ambushed during an oversight visit to the South African Police Service (SAPS) training academy. Cameron reportedly fired shots to fend off the attack after their vehicle was targeted and windows smashed. The MPs had been warned moments before the incident. Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille dissolved the South African Tourism Board with immediate effect, citing governance concerns and the board’s unlawful convening of a special meeting earlier in the month. The decision has prompted calls from the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) for the president to dismiss de Lille. Additional developments include ArcelorMittal advancing plans to shut down its long steel business and at least 19 pupils suspended following violent clashes at a Roodepoort school.
