Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos has spoken with President Donald Trump at least twice this month, the Wall Street Journal reported, as he tries to capitalize on a public rift between Trump and SpaceX chief Elon Musk. Reuters, citing the Journal, said the discussions took place in June and focused on ways the company could secure additional federal space contracts. Blue Origin Chief Executive Officer Dave Limp separately visited the White House in mid-June to meet Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles. People familiar with the meetings said Bezos and his team portrayed the company as a reliable alternative to SpaceX and pressed the administration for more launch and lunar-mission work; Bezos even invited the president to his upcoming wedding in Venice. The outreach underscores Blue Origin’s effort to close the gap with Musk’s SpaceX, which in April won a $5.9 billion U.S. Space Force contract for 28 flights, compared with the $2.4 billion awarded to Blue Origin for seven missions. Blue Origin’s heavy-lift New Glenn rocket flew to orbit for the first time in January and a second launch is planned for mid-August, milestones that could bolster its case for additional contracts. Trump has told advisers he wants to see a crewed mission to the Moon before the end of his term, a goal that aligns with Blue Origin’s lunar lander program. Blue Origin, the White House and SpaceX did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and Reuters said it has not independently verified the Journal’s account.
