SpaceX Completes First Ground Test of Starship Version 3 at Cape Canaveral
SpaceX conducted a spin-prime engine test of Ship 37 at its Cape Canaveral launch pad on 13 August 2025, only hours after crews replaced and leak-checked a faulty cryogenic flex hose. Visual evidence from the site indicated the propellant-flow exercise was completed without incident. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk later confirmed the prototype as Starship Version 3, the company’s latest iteration of its fully reusable launch system. Photographs from the pad show the vehicle fitted with significantly larger grid fins than those on the Falcon 9, a change intended to improve aerodynamic control during descent. The successful ground run marks the first public test of the V3 configuration and sets the stage for further static-fire trials in the coming weeks as SpaceX works to validate the upgraded design.
