Alberto Núñez Feijóo has continued to reshape Spain’s opposition Partido Popular, naming former secretary of state Alberto Nadal as vice-secretary of Economy and Sustainable Development from September and confirming Borja Sémper as national spokesperson. The shake-up also restores Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo to the party’s National Executive Committee, expanding Feijóo’s inner circle ahead of next year’s electoral cycle. Feijóo’s latest appointments seek to balance moderate figures such as Sémper with higher-profile conservatives while strengthening the party’s economic credentials through Nadal, currently an executive director at the Inter-American Development Bank. The reorganisation follows earlier changes that elevated Miguel Tellado to secretary general and Esther Muñoz to parliamentary spokesperson. In a separate move that could unsettle the party’s regional dynamics, former Valencian president Francisco Camps on 9 July announced he will seek the leadership of the Partido Popular in the Comunitat Valenciana when the regional congress is convened. Camps said he has assembled a 50-member campaign team and gathered 1,257 signatures of support, insisting he will be “absolutely loyal” to Feijóo while challenging the standing of incumbent regional leader and Generalitat president Carlos Mazón. Camps’ return from political retirement complicates the timing of the still unscheduled Valencian congress, a decision that Génova headquarters had been considering delaying until 2026. The contest sets up a test of Feijóo’s authority as he tries to solidify control nationally while managing emerging power struggles in key regions.
