A mural portraying FC Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal as Superman was found covered with graffiti in the Gràcia district of Barcelona on 16 July, less than 48 hours after it was unveiled to mark the player’s 18th birthday. The piece was created by Italian street artist TVBoy, known for sports-themed works featuring figures such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Spanish daily Marca reported that this is the second recent attack on a TVBoy artwork, following damage to a piece honoring Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams earlier this summer. The vandalism comes as Yamal is expected to sign a contract extension that will keep him at Barcelona until 2031 and see him inherit the club’s historic No. 10 shirt. Neither the club nor local authorities have commented publicly on the incident.
