FC Barcelona has confirmed that 18-year-old winger Lamine Yamal will inherit the club’s iconic No. 10 jersey and has signed a new contract that runs until June 2031. The agreement was finalised at the Spotify Camp Nou offices, where Yamal arrived with his parents and grandmother before posing with president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco. Club shops began selling shirts emblazoned “Yamal 10” immediately after the ceremony. The number became available after Ansu Fati left on loan to AS Monaco and was previously worn by Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho and, most famously, Lionel Messi. “Messi has made his path; I will make mine,” Yamal told reporters, saying he would embrace the responsibility without added pressure. Since debuting in 2023, Yamal has played more than 100 first-team matches, scored 25 goals and helped Barcelona secure back-to-back La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. He was also part of Spain’s Euro 2024-winning side. With his future now settled, the forward said his next ambitions are the Champions League and the World Cup.
