Swiss engineer Ken Pillonel has begun selling a snap-on case that replaces the Lightning connector on older iPhones with a fully functional USB-C port, extending the life of devices released before Apple’s 2023 switch to USB-C on the iPhone 15 line. Marketed under Pillonel’s Obsoless brand, the two-part enclosure integrates a custom circuit board that supports 9-volt fast charging, full-speed data transfer and Apple CarPlay without requiring any disassembly of the handset. MagSafe and wireless charging remain available, though accessories that draw power from the phone are not supported. The case is available immediately for roughly $45–$60 and covers about 20 iPhone models, from the iPhone 14 series back to the iPhone SE. Pillonel, who gained attention in 2021 for creating the first USB-C-modified iPhone prototype, says the product is aimed at reducing electronic waste by giving owners of older devices a lower-cost alternative to upgrading.
