U.S. cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced notable outflows in early August 2025, with Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs both seeing substantial withdrawals. On August 1, Bitcoin ETFs recorded $812.3 million in net outflows, marking the second-largest single-day outflow since their inception. Major contributors to these outflows included Fidelity with $331 million, Grayscale with $214 million, and ARK with $117 million. Ethereum ETFs ended a 20-day inflow streak on the same day, posting $152.3 million in net outflows. Over the week from July 28 to August 1, spot Bitcoin ETFs registered $643 million in net outflows, breaking a seven-week streak of inflows, while Ethereum ETFs continued to show gains with $154 million inflows driven by the ETHA fund. However, by August 4 and 5, Ethereum ETFs experienced their largest daily outflows ever, with $465.1 million withdrawn on August 4, largely due to BlackRock’s Ethereum ETF (IBIT) selling 101,975 ETH valued at $375 million, which accounted for 3% of the fund’s holdings and ended a 21-day inflow streak. Bitcoin ETFs also saw continued outflows around $333 million on August 4, with BlackRock’s IBIT responsible for $292 million of that amount. Analysts attributed the Ethereum ETF outflows to short-term profit-taking. These developments indicate increased volatility and investor repositioning within the crypto ETF market during this period.
BlackRock’s $ETH ETF just had its worst day ever. $375M out. 101,975 ETH dumped. 3% of the fund.. gone. That’s not rebalancing. That’s a rage quit. https://t.co/ongQ5aNraZ
