Switzerland’s Locarno Film Festival has unveiled the full programme for its 78th edition, scheduled for 6–16 August. The International Competition will feature 17 world premieres, led by Romanian director Radu Jude’s comedy-drama "Dracula," Abdellatif Kechiche’s long-anticipated sequel "Mektoub, My Love: Canto Due," and Ben Rivers’ dystopian tale "Mare’s Nest." Artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro said the selection aims to showcase cinema that is “alive, necessary and daring,” highlighting works from filmmakers including Alexandre Koberidze, Maureen Fazendeiro and Sho Miyake. The festival will screen 221 films in total, with its open-air Piazza Grande section hosting Jafar Panahi’s "It Was Just an Accident," Joachim Trier’s "Sentimental Value" and Brian Kirk’s thriller "The Dead of Winter." Alongside the premieres, the event will honour Jackie Chan with a lifetime achievement award and present the Leopard Club Award to Emma Thompson. Locarno’s latest edition continues its emphasis on risk-taking independent cinema while reaffirming the festival’s role as a launchpad for new auteur works ahead of the autumn awards season.
