The Toronto International Film Festival has added eleven films to the Gala and Special Presentations programmes for its 50th edition, which runs 4–14 September. The latest slate is led by the world premiere of Rian Johnson’s “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” featuring Daniel Craig’s return as detective Benoit Blanc. Seven other world premieres join the line-up, including Derek Cianfrance’s crime dramedy “Roofman” with Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst, and Paul Greengrass’s wildfire rescue drama “The Lost Bus” starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera. The festival will also showcase Chloé Zhao’s Shakespeare-inspired “Hamnet” in its Canadian premiere, while Jodie Foster-led “A Private Life,” Neeraj Ghaywan’s “Homebound” and Peter Ho-Sun Chan’s true-crime drama “She Has No Name” receive North American debuts. Rounding out the new selections are world premieres of “Steal Away,” “Rental Family,” “The Choral” and Agnieszka Holland’s Kafka biopic “Franz.” Announcing the additions, TIFF chief programming officer Anita Lee said the films “reflect a sweeping range of voices and styles that embodies the spirit of TIFF and our commitment to a public audience.” Further programme reveals are expected in the coming weeks as the festival prepares to mark its half-century milestone.
