Switzerland’s inflation remained subdued in July, with the headline consumer price index unchanged from the previous month and up just 0.2% from a year earlier, official figures showed on 4 August. The annual reading edged above economists’ forecasts for a 0.1% rise, while the monthly figure defied expectations for a 0.2% decline. Underlying pressures firmed slightly. Core CPI, which strips out volatile items, climbed 0.8% year-on-year, accelerating from 0.6% in June and overshooting the 0.6% consensus estimate. The EU-harmonised measure rose 0.3% on the month and 0.1% on the year, underscoring the persistently low price environment in the Swiss economy.
