Unverified reports circulating on social media allege that Druze militias loyal to Sheikh Al-Hijri have carried out large-scale attacks on Bedouin and Sunni communities in Syria’s southern Suwayda province. The accounts claim the fighters, described as receiving Israeli backing, entered residential areas on 17 July, executing civilians in the streets and forcing survivors to flee. Multiple posts put the death toll at more than 100 people, including women, children and elderly residents. Graphic descriptions reference victims being thrown from rooftops or beheaded, and say at least 15 agricultural workers displaced from Eastern Ghouta were among those killed. The militants reportedly declared that no Bedouins were left in the area after the assault. No independent confirmation has yet emerged from humanitarian organisations, Syria-based monitors or international news agencies, and Syrian authorities have not commented. If verified, the incident would mark one of the deadliest episodes of sectarian violence in the province since the start of the country’s civil war.
