Turkey’s governing Justice and Development Party (AK Parti) says the country’s drive for a “Terörsüz Türkiye” is progressing as planned, with the next milestone hinging on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) destroying its weapons, party spokesman Ömer Çelik said in a televised interview Wednesday night. Çelik ruled out the involvement of any external mediators in the disarmament talks, stressing that Ankara wants the process handled domestically through a parliamentary commission. He warned that if the PKK’s disarmament drags beyond three to five months it could become vulnerable to provocations, but added that the government remains open to constructive opposition input while ruling out concessions on the state’s core principles.
