Nationalist Movement Party leader Devlet Bahçeli received a delegation from the pro-Kurdish Halkların Eşitlik ve Demokrasi Partisi (DEM) at his office in the Turkish Parliament on 16 July. The group—headed by TBMM Deputy Speaker Pervin Buldan and including lawmakers Mithat Sancar and Faik Özgür Erol—held closed-door talks that lasted roughly 40 minutes. Buldan told reporters afterwards that the exchange had been “very positive and productive,” noting that both sides shared views on advancing the ‘Terörsüz Türkiye’ initiative aimed at ending armed conflict. She said regular consultations with Bahçeli and other party leaders would continue as the process moves toward a parliamentary commission phase. The meeting is the first between the nationalist MHP and DEM since the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) announced its disarmament on 11 July, when 30 militants relinquished and burned their weapons in Sulaymaniyah. Parliament is expected to establish a 35-member Terörsüz Türkiye Commission, and the DEM delegation is scheduled to visit main-opposition CHP chairman Özgür Özel on 17 July as part of its cross-party outreach.
