Turkey’s intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın met Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş at the Grand National Assembly on 9 July and delivered a comprehensive update on the government’s “Terror-Free Turkey” initiative, officials said. Kalın reported that the outlawed PKK has agreed to begin surrendering weapons on 11 July and presented a road map that foresees completing the voluntary disarmament within five months. The plan includes establishing a cross-party parliamentary commission to monitor compliance and guide subsequent political steps. The briefing comes after imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan last month endorsed the group’s dissolution in a rare video message. The closed-door session lasted about one hour and ten minutes. Earlier in the day President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid a courtesy visit to Kurtulmuş, underscoring the administration’s support for parliament’s role in steering the peace effort.
