Former WWE champion Drew McIntyre made his first appearance since late May on Friday’s episode of SmackDown, interrupting an in-ring segment featuring Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. McIntyre declared that “the Alpha has returned,” questioned Orton’s killer instinct and said he wants Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE Championship so he can take it from him. Orton responded with an RKO, setting up a singles match between the two at Saturday Night’s Main Event next week. The broadcast also confirmed that John Cena will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam on Aug. 23, marking the second meeting between the two in as many years. WWE released the official event poster shortly after the announcement. Elsewhere on the show, Jacob Fatu pinned United States champion Solo Sikoa in tag-team action before the revamped Bloodline—Sikoa, Jimmy Uso, Talla Tonga and Tonga Loa—retaliated by powerbombing Fatu through the announce table. WWE further set next week’s card, including the Street Profits putting the tag titles on the line against The Wyatt Sicks and R-Truth facing Aleister Black.
