Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN said Wednesday it will introduce a stand-alone direct-to-consumer streaming service on 21 August, charging $29.99 a month. The launch is timed to coincide with the start of the college football and National Football League seasons. Subscribers will receive live feeds of every ESPN linear channel— including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and SEC Network— plus on-demand replays, studio programming and access to roughly 47,000 live sporting events each year through an upgraded ESPN app. Existing pay-TV customers who already receive ESPN will be able to watch at no additional cost. ESPN is also offering a promotional bundle that combines the new service with Disney+ and Hulu for $29.99 a month during the first year, rising to $35.99 thereafter. Under a recent agreement with the NFL, the platform will fully integrate NFL Network content, expanding its pro-football lineup without requiring a separate subscription.
